Pan American Games are a very important sport event that is held in one of Latin America’s countries and brings together some of the best America’s teams in 39 sports. The event takes place every four years. It’s important to know that over 6700 athletes participate in the Pan American Games.
Volleyball at Pan American Games has a rich history that dates back to 1955. The first volleyball tournament at Pan American Games was held in Mexico City, Mexico in 1955. The last volleyball tournament at Pan American Games was held in Lima, Peru in 2019.
According to the history of men’s volleyball, the Canada men’s national volleyball team has participated in volleyball competitions at the Pan American Games 16 times. The team participated in the volleyball tournaments at the Pan American Games in Chicago in 1959, in Sao Paulo in 1963, in Winnipeg in 1967, in Cali in 1971, in Mexico City in 1975, in San Juan in 1979, in Caracas in 1983, in Indianapolis in 1987, in Havana in 1991, in Mar del Plata in 1995, in Winnipeg in 1999, in Santo Domenico in 2003, in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, in Guadalajara in 2011 and in Toronto in 2015.
It’s worth noting that the Canada men’s national volleyball team has won 3 Bronze medals at the Pan America Games in San Juan in 1979, in Winnipeg in 1999 and in Toronto in 2015.

Pan American Games 2011
Pan American Games 2011 was held in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Canada men’s national volleyball team took the 6th place. Brazil won the Gold medal, Cuba won the Silver medal, Argentina won the Bronze medal and Mexico took the 4th place at the volleyball competition of the Pan American Games 2011.
Pan American Games 2015
Pan American Games 2015 was held in Toronto. The Canada men’s national volleyball team won the Bronze medal. Argentina won the Gold medal, Brazil won the Silver medal and Puerto Rico took the 4th place at the volleyball competition of the Pan American Games 2015.
Winning the Bronze medal at Pan American Games 2015 gave the Canada men’s national volleyball team an opportunity to participate in Rio 2016 Olympic Games where the team successfully represented the country. As a result, the Canada men’s national volleyball team finished the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic tournament at the 5th place.
Among male volleyball players who represented Canada at Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015 are: Adam Simac, Dan Lewis, Dustin Schneider, Gavin Schmitt, Graham Vigrass, John Gordon Perrin, Fred winters, Nicholas Hoag, Rudy Verhoeff, Steven Marshal as well as TJ Sanders and Toontje van Lankvelt. The head coach of the Canada men’s national volleyball team is: Glenn Hoag.
