During the 3-rd round of the tournament Serbia defeated Japan 3 – 0 and Serbia defeated Italy 3 – 1.

In the semifinals of the tournament Serbia defeated Netherlands 3 – 1.

In the final math Serbia defeated Italy 3 – 2 and won Gold for the first time in the history of the FIVB volleyball women’s world championship.
